The scalloped rims on these pots are reminiscent of traditional French garden pottery of the 19th century.

The Philadelphia pot is a style that was made in the mid-Atlantic region in the late 18th century. Pots very much like this have been unearthed at John Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia, and were probably used in trading horticultural specimens with his friend Thomas Jefferson, and other botanists of the day.

Italianate influences in English gardens go back at least to the 17th century. Renowned botanist and planstman John Evelyn, (namesake of the modern company, Crabtree & Evelyn), traveled extensively in Italy during the time of the English civil war, bringing back to the royal court of Charles II classical architectural and sculptural elements that could be incorporated into the English garden. The Guy Wolff Tuscan Urn is inspired by the classic urns of Tuscany, which began their popularity in English gardens in the 17th century. These beautiful pedestal base flowerpots are accentuated by a strong graceful rim, with roping at the foot.
